Coyote Gouache Painting Process Video
I have had coyotes on my mind, so here is a video of a small gouache paint study in my sketchbook.

This was a quick study of a coyote. They are a common sight here in Southern California. You can find them roaming around neighborhoods and in urban areas.

Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors Review | Family Oil Portrait Paintings with Process Photos

12” x 16” oil painting on stretched linen canvas
I have to admit, this family portait was one of the hardest paintings I’ve ever made. I was testing oil paints from Williamsburg that I had never used before - Indian Yellow and Viridian. Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors are manufactured in the USA and the colors are rich and vibrant straight out of the tube. A small amount of paint goes a long way - a trait that I quickly learned the hard way as I began to paint.

Indian yellow was especially saturated, giving my initial skin colors an “oompa loompa” quality. It took a long time to figure out the proper amount to mix and there were several color corrections in the process of making this painting.
Viridian is a beautiful translucent blue green but, like the Indian Yellow, it still had a very strong color payoff. This is the most expensive tube of oil paint I have in my collection, but so little product is needed and it will likely outlast many of my lower cost pigments.
The texture of Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors are thick and buttery. Mixing them with other pigments was a joy, but I would start with the smallest amount and build up color from there.
I would 100% recommend these paints to anyone who is serious about their art and can afford the higher quality paints. I can’t wait to upgrade my own collection as I run low on my current oil paint stash!

In this video I paint a quick landscape study on a small linen wooden panel. I also finish a portrait painting of my daughter using oil paints. I finish off the video with a quick varnish using Gamblin’s Gamvar Gloss Picture Varnish to protect the artwork.
I recently bought this lavalier microphone to capture better audio during my filming process. You can hear the difference that it makes between the beginning and end of the video. I tested the mic while varnishing the pieces and I am looking forward to incorporating more ASMR into my videos.
